Robots in Industry
In 2023, the global operational stock of industrial robots grew by 10%, reaching a total of 4,281,585—marking the third straight year with over half a million new installations. A decade ago, just 1.33 million robots were in use across industries, highlighting a striking shift toward a more automated future.
Asia
In 2023, a staggering 70% of the industrial robots installed worldwide were located in Asia. China alone accounted for 276,288 new units, representing 51% of global installations. While Japan experienced a 9% decline in installations compared to the previous year, it remains the second-largest market for industrial robots globally.
India saw a remarkable 59% increase in installations, adding 8,510 robots, with 3,551 of those dedicated to the automotive sector. South Korea, on the other hand, installed 31,444 industrial robots, reflecting a slight 1% decrease from 2022.
Europe
In 2023, Europe witnessed 92,393 robot installations, representing 17% of the global total and a 9% increase compared to the previous year. Spain, Slovakia, and Hungary led the region in growth, while Italy and France experienced declines in their robot installations. Despite these shifts, Germany continues to dominate as the largest market for industrial robots in Europe, followed by Italy and France, both of which recorded fewer installations than in the prior year.
The Americas
Within the home market, 10% of global robot installations occurred, with 68% of those based in the United States. The U.S. now boasts more than 55,389 new industrial robots.
Canada saw a significant increase in installations, up 37% to over 4,300 units, primarily within the automotive sector. Similarly, Mexico attributed the majority of its 5,832 installations in 2023 to its automotive industry.
